Foot and Ankle Pain

Foot and Ankle Pain

Our feet literally support the weight of our bodies every step of the way. Because of this responsibility, foot discomfort is a common problem. With approximately 200,000 nerve endings in each foot, even a minor issue can feel extremely painful.

Foot pain can be attributed to several causes. It may be the result of injuries or infections affecting the bone, soft tissue, or skin, as well as the result of medical conditions such as gout, arthritis, and other conditions. For instance, in some individuals, lower back problems can produce referred nerve pain and altered sensation in the legs and feet. Likewise, individuals with diabetes are susceptible to developing peripheral neuropathy that is accompanied by pain, burning, tingling, and numbness in the lower extremities.

Pain is the body's natural method for alerting the brain to a problem. If you are experiencing pain anywhere in your feet or ankles —whether sharp, throbbing, or dull—contact our office as soon as possible for diagnosis and treatment. In cases of foot pain, timely treatment is essential to prevent a continued downturn in foot health and function.
